About Merbau Wood Value

The enduring beauty of timber grants effortless style to any room. Merbau offers a wide range of colour variability from light through to dark browns. Many pieces will have a yellow dust in the pores that show up as an attractive gold "flecking" when finished. It comes with a lifetime structural and an extensive durability. With its easy maintenance, non-allergenic and pre-finished timber, you can't go past merbau!

Merbau is a large tree with an average height of 50’ feet tall. The Merbau trunk can grow up to more than 5’ feet wide. The merbau tree is a native tree to the Eastern South Asia regions like India, Philippines, Indonesia and many Pacific Islands, as well as in Australia too.

Merbau undergoes a medium to large degree of colour change, with the muting of the colour variation from when fresh milled and with darkening over time to deeper orangey colour. Merbau wood texture is mostly fairly coarse. Merbau wood usually has straight to slightly interlocked, wavy grain. Some of the merbau wood flooring has an attractive, ribbon figuring.

Thanks to its wonderful hardness and strength, and its durability to moisture, the merbau wood is being used in a lot of places in the wood industry. Today we can find furniture, cabinets, joinery and musical instruments made of merbau and of course merbau wood floorings.

Technical Details:

Merbau is a very hard, durable and termite-resistant wood, making it a highly valued material for flooring and other uses. Merbau is almost as stable as teak and although comparable to hickory in strength, merbau has a much lower density. The merbau also has an excellent Dimensional Stability to moisture with a score of 4.6 – 47% more stable than the red oak wood.

Another interesting thing about merbau wood is that it exhibits golden-yellowish “flecks” on it, something that gives the merbau wood a very beautiful and shiny look.merbau flooring is so versatile that it goes well with any design and furnishing you have and is also very reasonably priced.
